Anoka County Homes and Real Estate For Sale

The name Anoka is derived from the Indian word anokatanhan, which means “on both sides” or “from both sides” because the community started its growth on both sides of the river. It was settled by immigrants in 1844. The town had developed with its own store, school and flour mill by the 1850’s. Anoka County Minnesota was duly organized on May 23, 1857. It is the northernmost county with its county seat sharing the same name, Anoka, and is the self-proclaimed “Halloween Capital of the World”. The first ever documented Halloween parade was held in Anoka County in 1920, during the time when the holiday was still rather controversial, and officially gained the title in 1937.
